Although the
Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp is not
administered by the Western Massachusetts
Council, the camp currently makes it home at the
Chesterfield Scout Reservation in Chesterfield,
Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts
Junior Conservation Camp has been hosted at
campsites all across the Commonwealth. From Cape
Cod to the Berkshires, the MJCC has utilized
many of the Commonwealth's abundant natural
resources.
The camp is a
unique outdoor experience offering a balanced
program of conservation education and
instruction in outdoor recreation activities.
The camp's programs introduces young people to
the ethical concepts and knowledge essential to
a lifetime of properly enjoying our natural
resources and the leisure activities that depend
on their careful stewardship.
The camp was
founded in 1949 as a cooperative project between
the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Game
and a citizens group. Since 1983, it has been
administered by the Massachusetts Sportsmen's
Junior Conservation Camp, Inc., a non-profit
tax-exempt corporation solely responsible for
the conduct and operation of the camp.
